Default Layered Technologies + Savvis + ThePlanet + more...?

Q: Why are we opening a second DC with Savvis?

A: Why not? We want to be able to provide our clients with flexibility and not have all our eggs in one basket. Savvis owns and operates one of the largest and most intelligent IP networks in the world. Their DC is located in Irving Texas and is in a carrier grade facility with high security and every redundancy, disaster or conceivable problem is already planned for. The Savvis IDC is now on its 3rd year without an outage and houses Fortune 10,100,1000 companies in its IDC along with many government and other large corporations. It houses enough servers and enough data passes through its backbone which is located in the same facility that it is considered a national entity and will be protected by the national guard in times of crisis. The Savvis IDC is also a MASSIVE facility with over 250,000 SQFT of DC floor space available.

Working with Savvis also allows us to expand into any of their other POP's located around the world and across North America. Savvis also allows us to provide unique services to our clients that only a large backbone provider can do.

SAVVIS Intelligent IP Global Network

SAVVIS operates the largest next-generation Intelligent IP Network in the world. Located in major cities throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific Rim, our top rated network is comprised of Lucent ATM core switches and Integrated Access Devices at the customer premises, as well as Nortel Networks Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Nodes that give the network its "intelligence." An IAD is any number of SAVVIS defined devices that creates a "bridged" connection from the customer's LAN to our Network.

Q: Will we be moving all our servers out of ThePlanet and into Savvis.

A: Absolutely no way. Why the heck would we do something like that when ThePlanet is the 'KING OF PING' for North America. We plan to keep on expanding in both locations and to further expand with ThePlanet when they open additional DC's across North America.

Q: Is there some sort of fall out between Layered Tech and ThePlanet.

A: None that we are aware of. We are still one of ThePlanet's largest clients and are still installing servers there to this day and plan on continuing to keep installing more servers. We have no plans to change our relationship with ThePlanet at all.

Q: Are you 100% out of space with ThePlanet.

A: No

Q: Is ThePlanet refusing to sell you more space.

A: No. Why would they? We have been working with them since 1999 and have no plans to change our relationship. Please do not believe all the FUD that is floating around from people that have absolutely no facts and just rumors.

Q: Is ThePlanet Dallas TX 2 DC 100% Full.

A: No but they are getting a little close to capacity and are working non-stop to expand and allow for more growth. We feel confident they will be able to provide us with more space as we need it.

Q: Will your resellers be leaving you because of this.

A: I can not think of any of our resellers that plan to leave us because we are providing them now with additional features and ever growing options. Again please do not believe the FUD that is floating around about this.

Q: Will the network at Savvis be any different then what you have with ThePlanet.

A: We are working to duplicate and improve our current network that we have with ThePlanet by creating a higher capacity network infrastructure, More redundancy with 'Savvis Multiline' / 'HRSP' utilized down to the end users switch. We are also working with the 7+ local carriers located in the Savvis IDC to bring in additional peering and increase our overall network capacity.

We are also working with both Savvis and ThePlanet to have a blazing fast connection between both DC's to allow our clients to keep a server on either network and backup between them at 10+MB/s speeds. At the same time we are also working with ThePlanet to improve our capacity and redundancy on the network located with them.

Over the next few weeks we will also be making additional annoucements about some new features and offering that Layered Tech will be providing to both our existing client base and new clients and further news about our ongoing expansion with Savvis, ThePlanet and more.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Thanks for the clarification.

Do you have a test IP for the Savvis data center? When will you start putting some machines in there? Will pricing be the same?

I was told by Chris that orders should be deploying in savvis as early as over the weekend if not within the next week or so.

We have already starting putting servers into the Savvis DC last weekend. The pricing is going to stay the same for the short time being but we will have new hardware configs and prices to match in the very near future along with more options for control panels and other licensed software.

For a test IP you can ping 209.67.208.1. This IP is only a temporary IP to use until we get a test download site and server setup. At this time we have no further plans to expand into Superb.

Thanks

Jeremy

I have been seeing many resellers now offering boxes in the new Savvis data center. I know C&W is great, and the building is near military-grade. If I get a box at Savvis, I don't want to end up being the guniea pig. What I am trying to find is some speed-test files (preferably files larger than 5mb), and on a 100Mbit port. Ideally, both a http link and a ftp link

Could you guys provide me with some links, please

I am also trying to find out what the near-LAN speed is between Savvis (Fort Worth) and ThePlanet/ServerMatrix (Dallas). I think I read on layertech's faq that they were 'going to try' to make it 10Mb/sec near-lan speed. But what is it currently?

Last question....if I sign-up with Layered...could I choose which datacenter my box goes in? (Savvis VS TP)

I am working on getting the new test files site up and online in the Savvis DC so you can do some ping tests and file downloads. I will try and get this done this evening and have a copy of your email you sent to our sales department and will reply to you when its completed. As for the Savvis DC it IS pretty much a military grade facility and you could try with, trucks, bombs, tornado's, planes, trains and automobiles and there is no way your getting inside that building. The network is top notch and we are literraly 1 hop away from the backbone and that single hop is our edge routers.

Currently right now I am pulling 9 - 10MB/s between Savvis and ThePlanet. We had Will at ThePlanet tweak the routes between the sites and now we get excellent throughput between the sites.

## Start

wget http://69.93.33.xx/16mb.test.file.gz
--09:13:29-- http://69.93.33.xx/16mb.test.file.gz
=> `16mb.test.file.gz'
Connecting to 69.93.33.xx:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 16,777,216 [text/plain]

100%[================================================== ======================================>] 16,777,216 9.41M/s ETA 00:00

09:13:31 (9.41 MB/s) - `16mb.test.file.gz' saved [16777216/16777216]

## End

If you wish to have your server in either datacenter just please notify your reseller and we will make sure its deployed at that DC. If you do not specify a location we will put you in the Savvis DC as we have more room there.

Thanks

Jeremy

Wait, one can request to be located in ThePlanet dc? So Savvis, TP and Databank is all an option?
